It's Not Just the Journey, It's the DESTINation!

It's Not Just a Journey, It's a DESTINation

I spent last weekend at the Brandcation conference in Destin, Florida getting to know many of the local attractions and businesses and bonding with my blogger friends. We stayed at the beautiful Emerald Grande at Harbor Walk Village and there was so much to see and do there that we rarely rested.

The rooms were gorgeous and had incredible views of the beach and the pool. There was a perfect spot for weddings or celebrations overlooking the beach and lighthouse shown above and we even witnessed two weddings during the weekend while we were there. So many restaurants are located in the Harbor Walk Village that you're sure to find any type of food you're in the mood for. We ate at the Grande Vista inside the hotel a couple times for breakfast and lunch, had an Italian family style dinner at La Famiglia, lunch one day at Harry T's,

and dinner with music and dancing at the Cantina at Crab Island. The food was scrumptious everywhere we went and I was thrilled to have fresh local seafood for several meals.

In addition to lounging around by the pool or on the beach, there are many activities to choose from. We enjoyed the Buccaneer Pirate Cruise one night with dinner catered by Jim and Nicks Catering and Restaurant. We went snorkeling and snuba diving with Destin Snorkel, cruised around Noriega point to a private beach for sunbathing, shopped at some terrific stores along the harbor and even played laser tag one afternoon when the weather kept us from visiting Big Kahuna's water park.

The entire trip was so much fun that I can't wait to go back and take the whole family with me. Almost everything was within walking distance, including a couple of nightclubs that several of us ladies visited. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming everywhere we went and we never lacked for exciting activities and fun stuff to do. This trip proved that it's not just about the journey, it's the DESTINation!

5 Tips to Reduce Your Vacation Expenses

Vacationing with the family doesn’t need to cost a fortune. It may seem hard to believe, but you can definitely go on an unforgettable trip with a very limited budget.  All you need is to make a number of wise choices:

1) Travel off-season.

If possible, vacation during the off-season. You’ll get a better rate on accommodations, plane tickets, train tickets and even theme park passes this way!

2)  Choose your accommodations wisely.

There’s no rule that says you have to stay in a hotel. Stay at a vacation rental or even a condominium unit for the duration of your trip. Vacation rentals are especially great for large groups. You’ll save a lot of money and will enjoy all the conveniences of home.

3)  Skip the attractions for a day.

You don’t need to go to a key attraction every day. Give your wallet a break and spend a day doing free or low-cost activities such as hiking or swimming in the pool. Have a picnic in the park, fly a kite or play a few board games in your vacation rental.

4)  Make smart dining choices.

Dining is a major traveling expense if you eat every meal at an expensive restaurant. Make a trip to the grocery store and get necessary food supplies. Take advantage of your rental’s kitchen and prepare breakfast for the family. Pack sandwiches and various snack items in your bag before heading out for the day. Be sure to pack refillable water bottles for the family in order to avoid buying overpriced bottled water!

5)  Let your children do the budgeting.

If your kids are on the older side, give them an allocated amount of cash for the duration of the trip. Giving them a budget to work with will make them put more thought into their purchases, as well as teach them a sense of responsibility.

Keep in mind that even the smallest of expenses can add up. Practice these five travel tips and tricks and cut down your travel expenses significantly.
