How to Plan a Memorable Family Vacation Without Going into Debt

Isn’t is sad that most vacations people go on are financed? It is hard to enjoy a vacation that you know isn’t paid off yet! But you can take a memorable family vacation without going into debt. The world tells you to put your vacation on credit and take care of it later. I promise you will enjoy your vacation that much more if you don’t go into debt for it. Check out these tips!

Know what you can afford

Of course the first step for paying for anything without going into debt is to know what you can afford. If you have to put your Disney vacation on a credit card, you obviously cannot afford it. Sorry to be blunt, but it is important during this process of knowing what you can afford and cannot afford. Create a budget for what you can afford, your family vacation will be much more memorable this way.

Prepare to be a cheap skate

When you don’t have a lot of money or are traveling on a budget, you need to be a cheap skate. You cannot afford to not be one! With that being said, there is no shame in being a cheap skate. In fact, you should embrace it! Check for bargains like Groupon deals for the area you’re visiting so you can enjoy great meals and fun activities without paying full price.

Go somewhere within a few hours of home

There is a misconception that you have to travel hours in a plane to get away from your everyday life. Going somewhere within a few hours of your home can still be a vacation. It is also a great idea because you can save a lot of money and avoid going into debt. Choosing a location that you can afford is the key principle in a debt free family vacation.

Look for free opportunities

Since traveling does require some money (gas, hotel, food) I like to look for free opportunities. Most towns and cities have something you can do for free! Utilize those free opportunities and really take advantage of them. Also, look for great deals on flights, rental cars, and hotels. If you travel a lot, you already know there are dozens of ways for you to save!

The idea of traveling on a family vacation and being debt free is that you can actually enjoy yourself. Stay within your budget and really embrace making those memories with your family. What tips do you have to help someone plan a memorable family vacation without going into debt?
