The Odd Life of Timothy Green Premiers 8/15

Last weekend during the BlogHer conference in New York City I had the opportunity to see an early screening of the new Disney movie The Odd Life of Timothy Green and it was wonderful! I wasn’t at all sure what to expect based on the title alone as I hadn’t seen any previews and I thought that it was a children’s movie, but it turned out to be a movie that the whole family can enjoy.

Starring Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, Diane Wiest and CJ Adams as Timothy, the movie deals with the struggles and triumphs of a family and an entire town. Cindy and Jim Green (Garner and Edgerton) are anxious to start their family but can only dream about the child they might have when Timothy shows up on their doorstep one stormy night.

This movie will tug at your heart, inspire you to try harder, and make you appreciate your loved ones even more. Check out the trailer above and then grab your whole family and head to the movies to see The Odd Life of Timothy Green when it premiers next Wednesday, August 15th. I can’t wait to see it again and take my family with me this time!

Disclosure – I was treated to a screening of The Odd Life of Timothy Green and provided with information and images by Disney Home Entertainment. I received no compensation and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

How to Save Money Using the Internet

These days it is very possible to save a significant amount of money using the Internet. You simply need to think of the various ways you can utilize your computer and Internet connection.  Here are some ways the World Wide Web can make your monthly paycheck go further:

1) Shop around.

The Internet is brimming with information, and all you have to do is search for what you need. Whether you are planning to buy a new microwave oven or a brand new car, doing online price comparisons will help you find the best deals and help you save a lot of money. It also helps to search for reviews on a particular product to see if the product is worth purchasing.

If you love to purchase things online, then you definitely should take advantage of sites that help you get the most bang for your buck. Some great places to visit are RetailMeNot.comFreeShipping.org, FatWallet.com and Coupons.com.

2) Reduce your phone bill.

You’ve probably heard of Skype—well there’s a reason that it’s so popular. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Skype is just one of the many programs that allows you to make calls over the Internet. You can even make video calls! Say goodbye to expensive, traditional calls on the telephone. Skype-to-Skype calls are completely free, and sound quality isn’t compromised one bit.

3) Stream TV shows and movies.

Let’s face it—your household can survive without a television. Television shows and movies can be found on the World Wide Web, and the best part is that you can watch these shows on your own time. Sites such as Redbox and Netflix won’t burn a hole in your pocket, and Crackle and Hulu are great for streaming television shows.

4) Do away with MP3 players.

Who needs hundreds of CDs and expensive MP3 players with excessive amounts of space when you can stream your music straight from your phone or laptop? Of course, you might have to deal with the occasional advertisement, but that’s a small price to pay. Try signing up with sites like Spotify and Songza, and you’ll never have to buy another music CD again.

5) Telecommute.

If your company allows or encourages telecommuting, then by all means, try it out. You’ll not only save precious time by working from home on your personal Internet connection, but you’ll also save hundreds of dollars on gas, parking and food expenses each year.

These are just some of the many, many ways that you can save money with the help of the Internet. With a little resourcefulness, you’ll find that the possibilities are endless!  How do you use the Internet to save money?

Carter’s Inc. & What to Expect When You’re Expecting Sweepstakes

When I was pregnant with our first child we bought the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” book and we also later bought the “What to Expect the Toddler Years” book.  It is truly amazing how much “free advice” we got from relatives, friends and neighbors during and after the pregnancy, but even more amazing how much of that advice was either completely wrong or simply outdated.

Here are just a few pieces of advice we received that I highly recommend you DON’T listen to:

* This is the best excuse you’ll ever have for eating anything and everything you want.

* Don’t worry, a little bit of bleeding during pregnancy is normal.

* Rub a little whiskey on his gums to help with the teething.

* Add some Karo syrup to the bottle if the baby is colicky.

The book came in handy again later when I was pregnant with quadruplets, and I’m happy to report that the latest edition of the book actually covers multiples now as well.  When our quads were born they spent at least the first six months wearing nothing other than Carter’s one pieces and an insane number of diapers.  Of course Carter’s also makes lots of other adorable clothes for kids, but the one piece outfits were quick, easy and comfortable and I don’t even remember having time for much else, including a  shower, during their first half year 😉

I’m thrilled that Carter’s, the most trusted brand in young children’s clothing, is featured in the new movie What to Expect When You’re Expecting that is due in theaters May 18!  Carter’s is celebrating the launch of the movie by hosting “A Closet Full of Carter’s Sweepstakes” on Facebook and they’re giving away over $12,000 in prizes! Increase your chances to win the $5,000 Carter’s gift card grand prize or one of the many other giveaways by entering every day on Facebook or you can even enter on your mobile device.  The sweepstakes runs through May 18th and you can enter once per person per day.  Here’s the breakdown of the prizes that you could win:

Grand Prize – (1) $5,000 Carter’s Gift Card

1st Prize – (4) $1,000 Carter’s Gift Card

2nd Prize – (10) $100 Carter’s Gift Card

3rd Prize – (150) Pairs of tickets to see What to Expect When You’re Expecting

No Purchase Necessary to Enter or Win. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Void where prohibited by law. Participants must be 18 years of age or older as of the date of entry. Promotion begins April 16, 2012 at 12:00:01 a.m. ET and ends May 18, 2012 at 11:59:59 p.m. ET. Limit one (1) entry per person, per day. Complete Official Rules available at www.facebook.com/carters. Sponsor: The William Carter Company (the “Sponsor”), 1170 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 900, Atlanta, GA 30309. Facebook is not a Sponsor of this Sweepstakes.

Disclosure – Carter’s partnered with bloggers like myself to promote their upcoming feature in the movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” As part of the program, I received product or gift cards. Carter’s believes that consumers and bloggers are free to form their own opinions and share them in their own words, and therefore did not tell me what to purchase or what to say about the products I used. Carter’s policies align with WOMMA Ethics Code, FTC guidelines and social media engagement recommendations.
