Frugal Chic Jewelry Deals From SuperJeweler

SuperJeweler Turquoise Necklace

I’ve purchased several pieces of jewelry over the years from SuperJeweler because they have great stuff at fabulous prices so I was thrilled when they offered me this hand knotted turquoise beaded necklace for review. The necklace retails for $79.99 but the SuperJeweler price is $49.99, or you can grab it on sale right now for just $39.99.

The necklace is 18 inches in length with graduated turquoise beads and a lobster claw clasp. I am very pleased with the weight and feel of the piece and can’t wait to wear it again, next time with a cute red paisley shirt and denim skirt.

During the month of May you can take 10% off any order with the promo code SAVE10SJ. That’s a great deal, just in time for Mother’s Day! While you’re there you may want to sign up for their newsletter. I’ve been a subscriber to their emails for a long time and love to see their weekly $10 deals in my inbox, plus they always let me know about the currents sales and specials.

The best thing about SuperJeweler in my opinion is that you can get chic, high quality jewelry that doesn’t break the bank. You can also buy from them with confidence since all of their merchandise comes with an unconditional 60 day money back guarantee. Additionally, their jewelry is always in stock and ready to ship, plus every order ships for free.

Disclosure – I was provided with the necklace shown above for the purpose of facilitating this review, however I received no other compensation and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Make Yourself Comfortable in Winter Sleepwear

Make Yourself Comfortable in Winter Sleepwear

I am really lucky to be able to work from home since I write for a living and I teach college courses online, so I often move straight from the bedroom to the office and get right to work on the computer in whatever I’m wearing. What this really means is that I own more than my fair share of pajamas, and I consider myself a connoisseur.

Because I spend so much time in my jammies, I prefer styles that are both comfortable and attractive. Just because I’m wearing my pajamas a lot, doesn’t mean that I don’t like to look nice. For that reason, I really like to buy pretty sleepwear, colorful pajama sets and lots of comfy separates that I can mix and match and still look good and not frumpy.

The adorable outfit shown above is actually made up of sleepwear separates from Dearfoams that you can find at major retailers like Kohl’s, Sears, Walmart and Belk at very affordable prices. I’d love to wear this on my long walk to work! Tell us about your favorite sleepwear, and whether you only wear it to bed – I’m hoping I’m not alone in wearing jammies as often as possible.

Make Your Favorite Shoes More Comfortable

Make Your Favorite Shoes More Comfortable

Shoes are one of my major weaknesses – I have a closet full of shoes and boots and I’d really hate to have to add up the total investment. But the point is that they really are an investment. Even though I have a lot of them, I actually don’t buy new shoes very often. Instead I prefer to choose classic styles and colors over fads and take good care of them so they’ll last a very long time.

Unfortunately, some of my most favorite shoes tend to be the least comfortable, especially by the end of a long day. For that reason, I really love to add my own arch supports to my best shoes to make them more comfortable. Adding arch support for shoes, like the foot petals shown above, helps to reduce foot fatigue by distributing your weight more evenly.

Since they’re very affordable, and I’m on my feet so much, I like to put arch supports in both flats and heels that are lacking in that area. I’ve tried both the reusable gel kind and the permanent ones and I prefer these stick-on kind because the permanent ones stay in place better and I don’t have to worry about cleaning and repositioning them. How about you? Do you use arch supports, or have any other tips on making your shoes more comfortable? I’d love to hear from you!

Check Out the Hot Winter Styles at Bogner!

bogner2How are you staying warm this winter? I like to bundle up in lots of layers that can be removed as needed as the temperature changes during the day, but it is so hard to stay stylish while bundling up, I often end up feeling like a big polar bear.

Enter these fabulous cold weather looks from Bogner.com! You’ll find lots of stylish down jackets for men, women and children. I adore this Anela-D down jacket shown on the right. The print is very unique, comes in a couple other colors, and the piping and lines on the coat greatly reduce the overstuffed polar bear look. Plus, I just love the surprise of the animal print lining.

Style Made Easy with Tights and Leggings

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of No nonsense for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Style Made Easy with No nonsense

I’ve always loved wearing tights and leggings because they add style to any outfit and of course they’re super comfortable. Leggings and tights are available in so many different colors, patterns and textures that you can easily change the feel of or create whole new outfits without spending a fortune!

Style Made Easy with No nonsense

The people at No nonsense sent me these black cotton leggings and patterned tights to try out and I gladly styled a couple of outfits around them. The gray dress I’m wearing above is one of my favorite summer outfits, but the color is also great for winter and I love how the striped tights and boots add some class. In fact, I liked this combination so much that I wore it to a family holiday get together.

Style Made Easy with No nonsense

I thought the cotton leggings were perfect for a more casual outfit so I put them together with this white and black tunic. I’ve used this top in the past as a bathing suit cover up, but the addition of the black tank top and leggings make this outfit more than suitable to wear anywhere.

I love the fact that you can buy No nonsense tights and leggings at most food and drug stores in addition to mass retail stores like Walmart and Target for less than the price of most lipsticks! Plus, I was super psyched to find out that Jill Martin, author and fashion guru, is the new brand ambassador for No nonsense as you can see in the video above. I’m a big fan of hers and enjoy watching her style tips and picks on the Today show. She gives some great tips in the video and I also recommend that you follow No nonsense on Facebook and on Twitter to stay informed about any promotions or coupons.

Invest a Little Time in Your Wardrobe and Save!

Invest a Little Time in Your Wardrobe and SaveShoes and clothing are expensive. Even if you purchased some great pieces secondhand, you still had to spend your hard earned cash. The best way to protect that investment is to put a little thought into caring for these items—that way you won’t have to buy more to replace worn items as often.

Let’s start with your shoes. I’m very willing to pay more for a pair of good quality, comfortable and supportive shoes, but that doesn’t mean I look forward to parting with the cash. For that reason I make it a point to take good care of my shoes, and it really does add to their longevity. Don’t forget to also protect and maintain accessories like belts and purses.

Polishing your leather shoes is one of the best ways to prolong their life. Trust me, this lost art really does help. I also like to spray suede or leather shoes with a waterproofing spray before wearing them for the first time. This is especially helpful in colder climates as it helps cut down on the amount of damage done by road salt.

There’s also a shoe repair shop in town that does very reasonably priced work. Check to see if you have something similar. I have had heels replaced, soles repaired and grommets replaced when necessary. Granted, I have had to spend a few dollars here and there to do so, but it has saved me from having to spend a bundle on a new pair.

Clothing can also benefit from a bit of maintenance. A little TLC will help your favorite pieces enjoy a longer life—and keep more cash in your pocketbook!

One mistake I think many people make is to wash any piece of clothing they have worn, no matter how short the time. Now, I’m not saying stop washing your clothing—obviously there are some items that need to be laundered with each wearing. However, unless they have been obviously soiled, I tend to wear jeans and jackets or sweaters (if I’m wearing another shirt underneath them) more than once before I wash them.

Laundering can be very hard on your clothes—especially the dryer. I am also very careful to never throw my work clothes, since they tend to be pricier, or more delicate items in the dryer—yes it’s quicker, but instead I hang the items on a rack and let them air dry. It keeps them looking nice longer and reduces my carbon footprint a bit as well.

We keep a basket in the laundry room and the family knows to put any items that repair there. I try to take a few minutes each week to mend anything that needs mending. Some weeks I’m lucky and don’t need to, but I make it a point to replace buttons, re-sew loose hems and re-stitch seams as necessary. If I wait, something will inevitably make the situation worse—I’ll lose the missing button, the tiny rip will turn into a huge tear or the kids will catch a heel in a loose hem and destroy the bottom of a pair of pants. An ounce of prevention truly is worth a pound of cure!

Shopping for Uniforms From CookiesKids.com

You’d think that it would be easy to get our kids dressed and out the door for school in the morning since our county has a strict uniform policy, but somehow the kids are able to turn it into a stressful ordeal many mornings. One of my boys will only wear shorts, one will only wear pants, my girls refuse to wear the pretty dresses and skirts I buy them, and one prefers to wear only navy all the time. It can be pretty difficult at times to make sure there is enough clean to match everyone’s preferences. Now I know that life could be much tougher around here if they didn’t wear uniforms for school so I’m really not complaining, I’m just amazed at how much effort it can take to put five kids in navy or white tops and khaki or navy bottoms five days a week.

In the past I’ve done most of our school uniform shopping at the local big box and department stores, but they only have their uniforms out for small period of time and there is never much differentiation – flat front pants in navy or khaki, cotton or polo shirts and a couple skirt styles. Well with five kids in school it can be hard to purchase everyone’s uniforms in the month or so they’re on display at the store, and I can’t stand the limited selection.

I only recently heard about Cookie’s Kids, it’s been around for 40 years, started by three brothers – Cookie, Marvin and Sonny – in Queens, New York. The chain expanded over the years and began to sell uniforms in the 1990′s then went online in 2007. They have an extensive assortment of school uniforms available in a wide variety of colors and sizes and I was pleasantly surprised by their prices. The entire nine piece wardrobe shown above, including backpack and lunchbox, is less than $100! For a mere $97.96 you could outfit your daughter with lots of great mix and match pieces just in time for school.

Since my girls won’t wear anything other than pants and knit shirts I’m thrilled that they’re able to show a little personality with these great No Fuze Basic Twill Skinny Pants and the French Toast “Welt” Stretch Pants with Faux Patent Belt (shown above).

My daughter loved these pants with the belt so much that she didn’t want to take them off after these pictures, she insisted that I should let her wear them to bed so she’d be ready for school in the morning.

The twill skinny pants were also a big hit because they fit and feel like jeans. The only thing they have in common with “regular” uniform pants is the color and the girls love them. These also have a bit of stretch to them which makes them comfortable and wrinkle resistant.

I also got the girls each a French Toast Fitted Knit Polo with Picot Collar from Cookie’s Kids and ended up with a total of $41.96 or about $21 per outfit which I think is terrific. Check out my whole path to purchase in my Google album here and be sure to follow Cookie’s Kids on Facebook and on Twitter to keep up with all the latest news and specials.
