It’s Not Just the Journey, It’s the DESTINation!

It's Not Just a Journey, It's a DESTINation

I spent last weekend at the Brandcation conference in Destin, Florida getting to know many of the local attractions and businesses and bonding with my blogger friends. We stayed at the beautiful Emerald Grande at Harbor Walk Village and there was so much to see and do there that we rarely rested.

The rooms were gorgeous and had incredible views of the beach and the pool. There was a perfect spot for weddings or celebrations overlooking the beach and lighthouse shown above and we even witnessed two weddings during the weekend while we were there. So many restaurants are located in the Harbor Walk Village that you’re sure to find any type of food you’re in the mood for. We ate at the Grande Vista inside the hotel a couple times for breakfast and lunch, had an Italian family style dinner at La Famiglia, lunch one day at Harry T’s, and dinner with music and dancing at the Cantina at Crab Island. The food was scrumptious everywhere we went and I was thrilled to have fresh local seafood for several meals.

In addition to lounging around by the pool or on the beach, there are many activities to choose from. We enjoyed the Buccaneer Pirate Cruise one night with dinner catered by Jim and Nicks Catering and Restaurant. We went snorkeling and snuba diving with Destin Snorkel, cruised around Noriega point to a private beach for sunbathing, shopped at some terrific stores along the harbor and even played laser tag one afternoon when the weather kept us from visiting Big Kahuna’s water park.

The entire trip was so much fun that I can’t wait to go back and take the whole family with me. Almost everything was within walking distance, including a couple of nightclubs that several of us ladies visited. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming everywhere we went and we never lacked for exciting activities and fun stuff to do. This trip proved that it’s not just about the journey, it’s the DESTINation!

Find a Music Teacher With TakeLessons.com

Guitar Lessons

My eight year old son had asked repeatedly for a guitar so I finally got him one for his birthday last year. He loves to get it out and play it but no one else in the family plays so we’re not able to help him learn how. For that reason I was super excited to learn about TakeLessons.com where you can find local in-home or in-studio music and singing lessons, and some lessons are even available online via Skype.

In addition to private music teachers, you’ll also find art instructors and academic tutors from across the country. They can hook you up with all sorts of lessons, not just guitar and singing, they also have piano, drums, violin, dance and acting lessons. The best part, in my opinion, is that there are no long term commitments and you can even change your instrument, schedule or teacher at any time. Plus there is a 100% money back guarantee – if you’re not happy after your first lesson they’ll find you another teacher or give you all of your money back, including the fee for the first lesson.

TakeLessons.com

The prices of lessons vary depending on the length and the location, but you can take 20% off all lesson packages through April 1st with promo code SPRINGMUSIC. You can book your lessons online or give them a call at 855-334-1831 to discuss pricing and options with a student counselor.

Finding the Perfect Gift for My Dad!

Cleveland Golf Most Forgiving Driver

My dad seems to have everything he wants and he doesn’t really need anything so he’s pretty difficult to buy gifts for. He has a birthday coming up, and Father’s Day is June 16th, so I’m going to need not one but two gifts in the pretty near future.

One thing I’m sure that I can never go wrong with for him is something golf related. I know he would appreciate any sort of golf accessories, like an umbrella, towels, golf balls, or a bag for his shoes. Although I have bought golf accessories for him before, I have never bought him any clubs. I’m thinking that he would absolutely love this Classic XL driver from Cleveland Golf. It boasts the “largest, deepest and most forgiving face ever”.

Since he’s not getting any younger, I think one of the most forgiving irons, with a much larger face on it will be just the ticket. I’m sure that he’ll love it, and if it happens to improve his game then that will be a bonus! You can find these drivers online or in stores everywhere. Now to figure out what to get him for Father’s Day!

Friday Faves: Favorite Date

Hey guys! I’m participating in a weekly vlog prompt with my friend Toni from JustStopScreaming.com and several of my other blogging friends, and this week we’ve been asked to talk about the favorite date that we can remember. Well, since I’m currently going through a divorce after 12 years of marriage, I honestly can’t remember a “favorite date” to tell you about so I’m talking about future dates instead.

Since I hope to start dating again sometime after this current mess is over, I’d love to hear about your ideas for a favorite date night. Thanks for watching, please come back next when I’ll be sharing my favorite quote.

Review: Otterbox Case for iPhone 5

Otterbox iPhone 5 Case

I’ve had an iPhone 4 for quite awhile and even though I’ve been coveting a new iPhone 5, there was nothing wrong with my old phone so I’ve been trying to be patient about getting a new one. Since the day I got my 4 I’ve had it in an Otterbox Defender case which has protected it very well over the last couple years, so when I got the opportunity to review a new Otterbox case I figured that was the perfect excuse to get a new phone. That makes tons of sense right?

A new iPhone 5 starts at $199, when you sign a new contract, and I found out that I could get $160 from Gazelle for my old iPhone 4 so that made the decision to get a new phone very easy for me. The great part is, that my old Otterbox case kept the phone in nearly pristine condition so I was able to trade it in for a decent amount of money.

Otterbox iPhone 5 Case

Although I really liked my old pink Otterbox case, and am very pleased with how well it protected my phone, I didn’t like that the outer part of the case was very flexible and began to stretch a little over time from repeatedly opening and closing the covers over the charger and ear bud areas. The new cases are made from a different type of plastic that isn’t nearly as flexible so I believe that they’ve corrected that little issue.

My girls helped me pick out my new case and I’m very happy with this two tone purple and violet one that they selected. You can find Otterbox cases in most major retail outlets, but the thing I like best about their website is that you can build your own case by mixing and matching any of the available inner and outer cover colors to match your own unique style.

Frankly, I wouldn’t use anything less than an Otterbox Defender case on my precious new phone. The case has three layers of protection with a scratch resistant face and is intended to help protect your phone from moisture intrusion and impact damage. I’m so happy with all my Otterbox products that I also just bought a case for hubby’s mini iPad and I’m very happy to recommend their products to others.

Friday Faves: Favorite Music Decade

I’ve been having a lot of fun participating in a weekly vlog prompt with Toni from Just Stop Screaming and some other blogging friends. This week’s topic is to tell you about our favorite music decade.

I’m a huge music lover and have hundreds of songs in the playlist on my phone and literally over a thousand more on my desktop computer so I thought it would be pretty hard to pick just one decade.

The cool thing is, the playlist on my iPhone actually shows the number of times that each song has been played so I scrolled through my list to see what that would tell me – as it turns out, I apparently listen to music from the 80s most often.

My fave artists and bands from that time include the Cranberries, Talking Heads, Prince, REM, Violent Femmes, Love and Rockets, The B-52s, Eurythmics, INXS, Cyndi Lauper and U2. I’d love to hear about your favorite music decade, and your favorite groups.

Thanks for watching! I’m looking forward to bringing you another video next week when we’ll be discussing our favorite lipstick.

5 Favorite Free Sanity Breaks

Favorite free sanity breaks!

Life takes its toll on all of us, and it’s tempting to give ourselves an expensive treat because we “deserve” one. We definitely deserve to treat ourselves, but we don’t need to give ourselves a financial hangover in the process. Sometimes we need a “pause” in our lives to truly reward ourselves. Here are a few ideas that will keep you in the black when you’re feeling blue.

1) Sunrise, Sunset

Few things in this world are as beautiful as the sun rising or setting. When we need to decompress, watching the sun rise or set can be the perfect way to let the stress melt away. Find a spot outside in a comfy setting, maybe bring along a cup of coffee or cocoa, take in the colors and just BE.

2) Enjoy the Seasons

Life passes by so quickly that we sometimes literally forget to stop and smell the roses. Each season offers beautiful sights and sounds that we can miss when we are racing through life. Set aside a half hour to commune with nature. Go outside and truly experience it. Whether it’s a moonlit walk in the snow or simply sitting in your flower garden, disconnect your mind from the “rush” of everyday life and experience the season. Breathe in the musky scent of fall leaves, feel the crunch of snow beneath your feet, really SEE the blue of a summer sky.

3) Make a Date with Fido

Spending time with your pet is one of the fastest ways to feel your blood pressure come down. Throw the ball for your dog, sit with your cat in your lap and listen to that magical purr, talk to your bird, or watch the serenity of your aquarium—all of these are nice ways to spend some quality time with your pet and save your sanity.

4) Act Like a Kid

What did you enjoy doing as a child? Did you enjoy flying a kite? Was roller skating (or blading) your thing? Maybe you enjoyed sitting on the riverbank with a fishing pole. Do those things again and re-connect with where you came from. If you have children, you can involve them too, so you both win. If you don’t have children of your own, borrow a niece or nephew, or maybe a friend’s son or daughter. Few things bring us joy like spreading joy!

5) Savor a Meal

What is your favorite meal? And when was the last time you really TASTED that meal? Whatever your fave is, make it and sit down and really enjoy it. Shut off the TV, switch your phone to silent, put candles and the “good” china on the table, and savor every bite. Eat slowly, and actually experience the flavors and textures.

As tempting as “things” can be to treat ourselves with, sometimes it’s the simple experiences in life that bring us peace and are the best rewards.

Friday Faves: My Favorite Blog

I’m having fun so far participating in a weekly vlog prompt with Toni from Just Stop Screaming and some other blogging friends. This week’s topic is to tell you about our favorite blog.

There are so many blogs that I visit each week and it’s hard to pick just one favorite, but – if I’m ever in need of a laugh I head on over to ScaryMommy.com where Jill Smokler, aka Scary Mommy, entertains thousands on a daily basis. You’ll find lots of tips and confessions on marriage and kids for imperfect parents.

As an example, here’s an excerpt from a recent post by Anna Luther entitled “10 Unrecognizable Post Baby Parts”:

Having three kids has done a number on my body… and my life. From the giant elephant that used to be my vagina to the varicose vein that constantly gets snagged on the coffee table, there are countless parts of myself that I no longer recognize. The top ten…

1. My Elephant. You might call yours a vagina, but I made the mistake of taking a hand mirror down there for some post-childbirth exploration, and all I saw was a giant, weary elephant looking back at me. Sometimes I have nightmares that he’s trying to eat me. On Mondays, I can hear him sighing in exhaustion.

3. My Life after 10 pm. I used to be doing my first shot at 10 pm. Now I feel like I’ve been shot at 10 pm. Going to bed before midnight used to make me nervous that I was missing out on something. Now I start to twitch if I’m not in bed by 11 pm – because I know someone will be waking me up at midnight, one, two, three, four and five.

Between the elephant and the “giant vasshole” she describes in #9, all I can say is, I’ll take a C-section scar any day! So, if you’re a mom (or a dad) who could use a little laughter in your day, go visit ScaryMommy.com.
