Review: Why Do I Need Google Chromecast Audio?

I was under the impression that the main purpose of Google Chromecast Audio is to bring our old speakers into the 21st Century by allowing us to stream music to them from our smart phones, laptops and tablets, all you need is an Aux input on ANY speaker. While this is indeed a wonderful thing, I already had a couple of Bluetooth speakers that I could stream music to from my phone so my problem was a little different.

So why do I need Chromecast Audio if I can already stream music to my Bluetooth speakers? I’m so glad you asked! There are two patios off the rear of the house, one covered patio off the master bedroom and a larger open patio off the family room. The patio off my bedroom is my “special place”, I love to hang out on the chaise there and read and listen to music when I get a few minutes to relax so I have a kinda pricey Bluetooth speaker that I use out there.

I also have a cheapo Bluetooth speaker that I use on the main patio – I bought it for the party lights on it and love to use it when my friends or family are hanging out in the backyard. The problem with Bluetooth in general is that it’s a battery hog and quickly saps the battery life of my phone. Since Chromecast Audio uses our home WiFi network instead of Bluetooth it solves the battery life problem! It also allows me to take phone calls without interrupting the music, which is huge for me because my calls would not only stop the music but would come in over the speaker so I’d have to fumble with the phone if I wanted to make the call private.

Not only can I now take calls while still listening to music with Chromecast Audio, but the best part is that I can group multiple devices and stream the same music to more than one speaker at a time. Now I can listen to music on both patio speakers at the same time, I don’t have to choose one or the other and I could even add another speaker and listen to the same tunes inside the house. I’m ecstatic that I was able to solve multiple problems with Google Chromecast Audio and at just $35 at Best Buy for each device I feel like I tied together a whole house sound system at a bargain price. You can stream millions of songs, radio stations, and podcasts through apps like Pandora, Spotify, YouTube Music, and Google Play Music and the free Google House app allows you to quickly and easily setup the devices.
