You’ve likely already heard of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) but you may not know a lot about it so I wanted to help spread the word about how the Act can help more people get access to affordable health insurance. There is financial assistance available for those who qualify and the Act also guarantees coverage for pre-existing health conditions. I am a single mother with five small children and although we thankfully don’t use our health insurance very often, it is comforting to know that we have it available in case of need. Just one even slightly serious medical issue can cost a small fortune if you’re not covered and with five kiddos I’m not willing to take that risk. Not to mention that you may have to pay a penalty if you don’t have health insurance for your family.
It’s been reported that almost 87% of health insurance exchange applicants saved $250 a month or more on their health insurance last year so I’d like to encourage you to check out all the available health care plans during the open enrollment period that ends February 15th. Most of us go online and compare prices on our major purchases like televisions and computers, well now it’s easy to do the same thing with health insurance.
The open enrollment period is the best time to check out your options and find the best health care plan for your family, but there are a few other times that you’re allowed to change plans. If you have a major change during the year – get married, divorced, have a baby or adopt a child – then you have a 30 day window to make a change or you’ll have to wait until the next open enrollment period. So hurry and check out your options now to see how much money you can save and have the peace of mind that comes with knowing your family is covered.
