Disclosure – I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for National Dairy Council and the LACTAID® Brand. I received product coupons from the LACTAID® Brand to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
I’ve always been lactose intolerant, but when I was younger I didn’t realize what my problem was. When I was in high school and started going out with friends and on dates it got to the point where I wouldn’t eat anything while we were out and about. My friends would all want to go out for pizza or something and I’d end up sitting there watching them eat. After I started college I finally realized that it was only certain foods I was having problems with. Anytime I would eat dairy products, like ice cream or pizza – my favorite foods, I’d end up getting gassy and feeling bloated. Those are not issues you want to deal with while out with friends or on a date.
The National Dairy Council says that 30-50 million Americans believe they are lactose intolerant, and at least two of my five children also have issues with processing dairy foods. Since milk provides essential nutrients like calcium, protein, and vitamins A and D, I think it’s very important that the kids have plenty of dairy in their diets but I don’t want them to have the discomfort and embarrassment that I experienced growing up. For that reason I have educated them about lactose intolerance and we always have plenty of LACTAID® pills on hand. We also drink LACTAID® milk and use it when cooking things like macaroni and cheese, brownies, mashed potatoes and pudding, some of the kids’ favorite foods.
LACTAID® milk is a real dairy product, not a dairy substitute or alternative, and it tastes just like “regular” milk but without the lactose that is so hard for some of us to digest. They also have cottage cheese and ice cream products available and the National Dairy Council tells us that hard aged cheeses are naturally lower in lactose, and many yogurts contain live and active cultures that help digest lactose.
If you or any member of your family is lactose intolerant I would highly recommend that you try LACTAID® milk, and to help you with that I am giving away some coupons for free LACTAID® products to one lucky reader. To enter to win just do any or all of the things listed in the Rafflecopter widget below. This giveaway will end at midnight on Wednesday, June 11th.
