My five kiddos are growing up really fast and they’re trying to get more independent in the kitchen, unfortunately that means we have a lot more messes to deal with! They really like to get their own food from the microwave, but they’re not very good at wiping up any messes so we end up with lots of baked on foods in the microwave. In addition to being pretty gross to work with, it can be difficult to scrape that mess off.
I’ve found that the fastest and easiest way to clean an icky microwave is to heat a cup of vinegar for two to three minutes, leave the cup inside with the door closed for five more minutes, then open and clean it with the remaining warm vinegar. The vapors created from the vinegar inside the microwave help to loosen all the stuck on food so you can more easily wipe it down with a washcloth and get a sparkling clean interior.
When I was growing up we used vinegar to clean pretty much everything from lime deposits in the tub to the windows. Now that I know how to stack coupons and match them with sales I’m able to get bargains on all sorts of cleaning supplies but you rarely see them in my shopping trips because I prefer to limit the chemicals that I store in my house and stockpile, and I love being able to use natural, non-toxic ingredients.
Although you may use any white vinegar to make your microwave sparkle, I enjoyed using the new Heinz Cleaning Vinegar for this job. Their all natural cleaning vinegar is a stronger “special cleaning strength” that will help you get even the toughest jobs done. White distilled vinegar is very acidic and it kills germs, bacteria and even most molds. Now with a stronger strength formula you can clean without harsh chemicals and for a very low price.
When I shopped at Walmart for the Heinz Cleaning Vinegar I found it in the vinegar aisle along with a huge assortment of flavors and varieties of vinegar. Although I did stop and check out the other cleaning solutions, I much prefer natural cleaning methods like using vinegar.
Do you have any healthy cleaning or vinegar tips that you’d like to share? I’d sure love to hear what works for you!
