How Many Houses Have Mold?

We live in the hot and humid south and often have to battle problems with mold and mildew, but I was shocked to find out that literally 100% of homes tested from all regions of the US actually contain mold.  While that makes me feel better that we’re not alone, it also makes me worry about how prevalent mold and mildew are across the country.

Typically we see mold appear around the gaskets on the freezer in the garage and our window sills, but we always keep Tilex on hand because we know it will kill the mold and keep it from coming back for longer.  Unfortunately, plain soap and detergents won’t kill the mold so even if it looks cleaner, the mold will just come back right away.

Of course we like to use Tilex to clean the bathroom and kitchen too!  Just the other day we also used it to clean the white vinyl columns on the front porch.  They were starting to look pretty dingy and they were even turning a little green around the bottom edges.  Happily, the Tilex took care of that with very little effort on my part!

The best way to try and control mold inside your home and bathrooms is to keep the moisture level as low as possible.  Make sure to check your windows and doors for drafts and replace weatherstripping where necessary.  Open a window or use the vent when showering to prevent a buildup of moisture in the bathroom.  It is also helpful to vacuum and clean hard surfaces regularly.  Anytime you see mold, be sure to kill it with an EPA-registered bleach-based product like Tilex because it is best to take care of it at the source before it has a chance to spread.

Now to celebrate their new lineup of Tilex products, they are hosting a sweepstakes with a bunch of great prizes!  Enter on the Tilex Facebook page and you could win one of three 40″ flat screen TVs or one of ten Netflix subscriptions.  I can’t wait to try the new Tilex┬« Mold Stain & Mildew Stain Remover, Refreshing Breeze variety.

Head on over to the Tilex Facebook page to “like” them, then be sure to check out the new Sonny Mold and Frankie Mildew show on YouTube, I’m betting that you’ll also want to “Cancel the Mold Show in Your Bathroom”!

  1. I had NO idea about the mold problem across the country. We also keep a spray bottle of Tilex in our bathroom shower and use it regularly. Great information on this!
